we started this blog so our friends and family can keep track of border hopping and continent crossing, because group emails are so boring... plus we have some cool London finds to share with you. watch this space to see where in the world we are (leave us a comment if you like what you see)

Note to Selfe

When the embassy says 'visas by post can take 8-14 days' don't assume that it will take 7. Don't overestimate German efficiency. And don't put all your faith in the British postal system... especially if your trip to Croatia depends on it. Doris of the Month award goes to Phil for suggesting that we send both our passports off a week before departure to extend Adi's Schengen so we can spend one extra day in Montenegro (his current Schengen expires 21 August, meaning we'd only be able to spend one night there). Having been told by the German embassy that the passports had been dispatched yesterday, we expected them to arrive today. At 3pm, no passports in sight and blood pressure rising by the minute (flying 9am tomorrow, just to put things into context). After the Post Office confirmed that our special delivery tracked parcel had not even entered the postal system, another call to the German embassy confirmed that they had left the embassy, but on closer inspection by kind-gentlelady-who-could-not-tell-me-her-name-for-security-reasons, in fact they had not left the German embassy at all. Luckily, we didn't underestimate German kindness. Thanks to said German gentlelady who waited at the embassy beyond its opening hours while Phil cycled through the city like a bat out of hell to collect our passports. Was Montenegro worth the stress? Watch this space...
