Jersey - July 2011
Jersey marked our first swim in the sea since we left Cape Town, and it was just as cold as Clifton (same ocean after all). The largest of the Channel Islands and also the closest to Normandy, we found it very charming. The observation that the TJ wedding contingency lowered the average age in Jersey from 65 to 50 was a bit of a running joke, and we definitely brought some SA-Aussie gees to the island. The Cankle (Ady’s bachelor party injury, for those who don’t know) was inhibiting so we didn’t explore as much as we would have liked – you can rent bicycles to see more of the island – so our impression of Jersey was limited to the south side between St Brelade and St Aubin (where our guesthouse and the wedding venue were located). We loved the narrow roads, the ‘Postman Pat’ waist-high walls, the old stone cottages and the abundant flowers. We managed to clock up some much needed R&R and the weekend culminated in an epic party compliments of Si and the lovely Mrs Bel TJ. Highlights were the father-son dance off, the springbok steak and the fireworks display over St Aubin. The view wasn’t half bad either. Oh, and we met some awesome Aussies too. Thanks to Bel and Si for inviting us to share your day. See wedding pics here.
